This post is part of a series on time travel and alternate history fiction — and why we reach for it when the present gets loud. Right now, these books are all available together in the Escape from 2026 Storybundle, through June 25, 2026.
What if the thing you needed most wasn’t rescue—but someone who could actually see you?
Time Out of Mind collects five time travel stories by Leslie Claire Walker: a ghost with a mission, a little sister lost in time, a woman fighting to remember who she is, notes that live on in hearts and minds, one moment in time that changes everything.
The time travel in Leslie’s stories doesn’t seem to be about sci-fi mechanics but about characters gaining the perspective they need to see their situations clearly, and about finding the right people to reach out to. Even if you can’t connect with someone here and now, the stories seem to say, don’t lose hope. Someone, someday, will see you for who you actually are, and not in a bad way.
The characters sometimes try to escape their situations, and sometimes try to face them head on. Without perspective, though, they’re just going to rehash the same problems they’ve always had—themselves. There’s only so much time travel can do to repair a broken relationship with yourself. But where the real world rarely gives the opportunity for perspective and second chances, the time travel in these stories give a slim chance of finding peace of mind.
Time Out of Mind is in the Escape from 2026 Storybundle—available through June 25, 2026, starting at pay-what-you-want.
