Process Post: The rest of the structure

This week’s post is the rest of why you need to write the different parts of the book description.

The way I’m explaining this is patterened off a sales-writing technique called AIDA, or “Attention, Interest, Desire, Action.”

The cover grabs attention, the hook keeps your interest from moving onward, desire comes out of finding out that yes, this book is perfect for you, and action comes from saying, “Join the characters on their adventure!”

How you do each of those elements can vary a lot, but once you have a feel how to accomplish each step and what order they go in, it’s pretty easy to write these things on autopilot.

Think of book descriptions as poems, but maybe not sophiticated poems…maybe just a limerick. Once you know how to write a limerick, it’s pretty easy to write as many goofball limericks as you need. Same thing with book descriptions: get in the right mindset, put on your EXTRA DRAMATIC hat, and start typing!
