Process Post: Keywords

I used to be the person studying all the keywords. Then…I got a job as an SEO/content writer.

Here’s what I learned:

  • Keywords don’t sell things.
  • Content sells things.
  • It’s better to focus on the content. It’s better to have one person spread the word to a potential customer and make the sale than it is to have a thousand random people give you a “like.”

Big money – potentially millions of dollars – is involved in one article I wrote, with one customer.

Keywords are nice.

But spend way more time making sure your book is in the right categories and that your cover and book description and opening scream the write subgenre than you do ranking keywords.

OUCH, I tell my past self. OUCH.
