Marketing workshop of DOOOM

I have returned.  I’m not sure what else to say.

Other than IT WAS SO @#$%^&* GREAT OH MY GOD GUYS YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE IT!!!  SQUEEE!!11!!!11!!

We wrote six proposals for six new novels.  And back-cover blurbs, elevator pitches, and taglines.  And query letters.  And bookstore marketing letters.  We learned the history of publishing (a brief overview).  We learned how to get POD books into bookstores.  We learned how to Work the Math.  We (re)learned the miracle of not rewriting.

I developed a split personality.  Don’t worry, this is the good kind of split personality that all extremely shy people learn how to develop.  There’s you (shy), and then there’s the person who has to talk to people she doesn’t want to talk to, necessarily (extrovert).  That person shows up at conferences, workshops, and booksignings.  And now there’s the marketer (narcissist), who has a VISION and is not going to be stopped by silly things, i.e., anything internal/external that says, “But you can’t.”  The marketer says, “You know what?  I’m a professional writer, and I’m going to do it that way anyway.”

Snap!

  1. Wow, you wrote a way more coherent overview than my brain is able to churn out. Reading your list reminds me of what we learned. I got a lot of “oh yeah” reading this! Still in recovery mode but so thrilled with the entire experience and can’t wait to review my notes. Bring on that future!
